Instrument: INTA Passive Cavity Aerosol Spectrometer Probe

Name INTA Passive Cavity Aerosol Spectrometer Probe
Acronym PCASP-100X-INTA
Manufacturer Particle Measuring Systems
Operated by INTA
Operated onboard

Instrument type

Name Aerosol Spectrometer Probe
Acronym Aerosol Spectrometer

Principle of operation

Measured parameter Aerosol concentration and size distribution spectra
Operating principle

Passive Cavity:
Measures amount of light scattered as aerosol particles cross a laser beam. Particle size determined using Mie theory. The particles are focussed in the field of view by a sheath airstream. Collecting optics arranged such that the probe exhibits a very small lower detection limit. Cannot be used within cloud as measurements contaminated by splashing and/or break-up of cloud droplets.
