Institution description The Institut für Physik der Atmosphere (IPA) is located in the DLR Campus Oberpfaffenhofen. It focusses on the research of the physical and chemical processes of the troposphere and lower stratosphere. About 100 people work in the institute. It is structured in five departments. The institute investigates physical and chemical processes in the troposphere and stratosphere: Physics and chemistry with regard to climate aspects Water vapour, clouds, precipitation, trace gases, aerosols Ozone (Troposphere and Stratosphere) Mesoscale meteorology and regional climate ( for example the Alpine region or Bavaria) Aviation and traffic research with respect to the interaction of traffic and environment. Effects of emissions on the climate Noise propagation Effects of weather on aviation Earth observation by development of remote sensing methods and their applications Radar Lidar Remote sensing with satellite instruments
