Institution description | The organized participation of Bulgarian scientists in space research started in 1969 when the Scientific Group of Space Physics (SGSP) at the Presidium of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was created. Targeted studies began in Bulgaria in the field of probe methods for studying of space plasma. The SRTI-BAS has about 135 employees, of these 4 1-St rank senior research fellows and professors, 22 second rank senior research fellows and associate professors, 70 research fellows and specialists with higher education, assisting and technical staff distributed into 16 research departments. When home or international scientific-research contracts are executed, the number of engaged researchers is sometimes doubled. The Institute has established 3 dedicated scientific-research laboratories: the Laboratory of Aerospace Optics in the town of Shoumen, the Laboratory of Aviation Equipment in the city of Sofia, and the Laboratory of Navigation and Communication in the town of Plovdiv. The Institute also boasts a Mechanical Workshop and the COSMOS Scientific-Production Enterprise in the town of Stara Zagora. |
