Instrument: Ultra High Sensitivity Aerosol Spectrometer

Name Ultra High Sensitivity Aerosol Spectrometer
Acronym UHSAS
Manufacturer Droplet Measurement Technologies
Manufacturer website http://www.dropletmeasurement.com/
Operated by UNIMAN
Operated onboard

Instrument type

Name Aerosol Spectrometer Probe
Acronym Aerosol Spectrometer

Principle of operation

Measured parameter Aerosol concentration and size distribution spectra
Operating principle

Passive Cavity:
Measures amount of light scattered as aerosol particles cross a laser beam. Particle size determined using Mie theory. The particles are focussed in the field of view by a sheath airstream. Collecting optics arranged such that the probe exhibits a very small lower detection limit. Cannot be used within cloud as measurements contaminated by splashing and/or break-up of cloud droplets.
