| Institution description | The School was ranked 6th by Research Power in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. A subsequent external review of the School’s activities concluded that it ‘has a strong and well-deserved reputation for the strength and breadth of its research’, which spans the arts and humanities, through social, natural and physical sciences to include engineering and technology. Our research covers a diverse and innovative variety of subjects, ranging from flooding to financial crises, from landscape to limnology, with areas of study as disparate as Italy and India, and the Mississippi and Mexico. Our team of world-class academics and high-quality research students place the School at the forefront of contemporary academic thinking, and we work in close collaboration with leading organisations in the private and public sectors, including international bodies, government departments and agencies, ensuring that our research is not only relevant but has important and beneficial applications and impacts for society as a whole. |
