| Institution description | The National Institute of Biological Resources (INRB) was created in 2006 by the merged of the former institutes of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries (MADRP). IPIMAR is the Research Unit that will be involved in this project. IPIMAR is INRB's Department for Fisheries and Sea Research, which carries out strategic research and technological development on management and conservation of marine living resources and aquaculture, ensuring scientific and technical support for policies defined by MADRP. It has more than fifty years of experience in multi-disciplinary studies related with all fields of marine sciences, and chiefly fisheries and aquaculture. It has been coordinator or major participant in many EU, and other international and national projects. Other activities are the tuition, formation and training on marine sciences, and the diffusion of information and edition of publications on marine sciences. IPIMAR has the most important Portuguese information unit on Marine Sciences, large research facilities, including three research vessels, an aquaculture station and several laboratories. |
