| Institution description | The Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and environmental Research (CIIMAR) is a non-profit private organisation dedicated to research, dissemination and technology transfer in the area of Marine and Environmental Sciences. In 2008 it became part of CIMAR Associated Laboratory (Centre of Marine and Environmental Research), which includes CIIMAR (University of Porto), CCMAR (University of Algarve) as well as a research group in Marine Geology of INETI/LNEG, in Lisbon. The research carried out at CIMAR focuses on 5 key areas: Ocean and Coastal Dynamics; Ecology, Biodiversity and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems; Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry; Marine Biology and Biotechnology; and Aquaculture. CIMAR Associated Laboratory has 199 doctorate researchers (110 from CIIMAR), and annually publishes more than 250 articles in indexed international journals (264 in 2008). It´s research team also includes about 300 international MSc and PhD grant holders making CIMAR the largest centre in Marine and Environmental Sciences, in Portugal. |
