| Institution description | The Department of Soil Science and Agriculture Chemistry, from the University of Almeria, includes different research groups and lines, most of them focused on soil degradation. One of the research lines in the Department is centred in surface hydrology, erosion in arid and semiarid environments, in which Yolanda Cantón is involved. She belongs to the Desertification and Geoecology Research Group together with other researchers of the Geoecology and Desertification Department from the Experimental Station of Arid Zones (CSIC) in Almeria. The research activity of the research group is concerned with the interactive relationship between geomorphological processes, soil evolution, and vegetation in arid and semi-arid environments. Water balances and specifically the role of soil crusts (physical and biological) on the processes involved in the water cycle at different spatial and time scales have been important subjects of research for a long time for this research group. |
